The history of the IKEUCHI GROUP in Hokkaido
1868
1868, the Meiji Restoration was established.
1869, the Hokkaido Development Project was commissioned. Ezo was renamed Hokkaido.
1886, the Hokkido Development Project was abolished. The Hokkaido Agency was established.
  • 1885
    The founder, Yosokichi Ikeuchi, moved to Hokkaido from Aza-Uchiike Village in Shiga Prefecture.
  • 1893
    Yosokichi Ikeuchi founded a retail/wholesale ironmongery at the current IKEUCHI site in South 1 West 2, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Japan.
1918
1918, SEMI-CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION was held.
1952, Hokkaido Comprehensive Development Plan was launched.
1972, Asia's first Winter Olympics were held in Sapporo.
  • 1923
    A joint-stock company, IKEUCHI Store, was established with capital of 300,000 yen.
  • 1949
    The IKEUCHI Building was completed, and wholesale trade expanded.
  • 1953
    Construction of Stage 1 of the new IKEUCHI Building was completed (Commercial space leasing)
  • 1961
    Construction of Stage 2 of the new IKEUCHI Building was completed (Commercial leasing extended to the 5th-7th Floors)
  • 1962
    In-house retail shops were established on the 1st-3rd Floors, with commercial leasing on the 4th-7th Floors
  • 1965
    Commercial leasing was discontinued and planning begun for in-house retailing shops throughout the building.
    Received Department Store trading license and commenced trading on April 10.
    Joined the Japan Department Stores Association.
  • 1968
    Retail section was reorganized as MARUYO IKEUCHI CORPORATION
  • 1973
    Construction was completed on the south side of the new building
1981
1981, Northern Territories Day (February 7) was established.
1986, The 1st Asian Winter Games were held in Sapporo.
1988, the Seikan Tunnel was opened (March 13).

    Establishment of the group subsidiary, IKEUCHI SYSTEM SERVICE CO., LTD.
    Establishment of the group subsidiary, IKEUCHI ENVIRONMENTAL DEVELOPMENT CO., LTD.
  • 1993
    100th anniversary of founding. Store remodeling construction completed.
  • 1995
    Establishment of the group subsidiary, LEMON CORPORATION CO., LTD.
  • 1997
    Establishment of the group subsidiary, IKEUCHI DATA PLACE CO., LTD.
    Establishment of the group subsidiary, TOMIX CO., LTD.
2000
2000, construction of the "JR Tower" complex begun. Completed in 2003.
2008, the 34th Summit Meeting of Major Leaders (Toyako Summit in Hokkaido) was held in Toyako Town.
2016, the Hokkaido Shinkansen (Shin Aomori station - Shin Hakodate Hokuto station) opened.
